Hemp has been known since ancient times. The plant is cultivated all over the world, but depending on the climatic conditions in the different areas, different varieties are distinguished. The following three subspecies can be listed: Cannabis Sativa, Cannabis Indica and Cannabis Ruderalis. Regardless of the choice of the variety to be grown, you should read carefully the growth characteristics of the variety. What should you know about Cannabis Sativa seeds?
Fibrous hemp and its medicinal properties
When we talk about cannabis, we usually refer to cannabis, which is known primarily for its hallucinogenic and medicinal properties. However, it is worth noting that hemp (Cannabis sativa L. var. sativa), also known as fibrous, belongs to this species. Hemp produces so-called cannabinoids. Research shows that there are more than 60 such compounds, but among them the most recognizable is of course THC, which has a therapeutic and psychoactive effect.
For true hemp, the sum of THC and tetrahydrocannabinoleic acid contents shall not exceed 0,2 % (calculated on dry matter). If the THC content exceeds the above mentioned value, it is referred to as cannabis or narcotic cannabis. A compound that does not lead to drug intoxication is the so-called CBD cannabidiol. He also has a healing effect.
The therapeutic use of cannabis has long been discussed. Nowadays, there are more and more new scientific publications on cannabis, which mainly point out the therapeutic effects of this plant. The most important medical indications include multiple sclerosis, Tourett's syndrome and chronic neuropathic pain.
The seeds of Cannabis Sativa and the oil pressed from them are also versatile. They are valued primarily for their high nutritional value and are used, among others, in the food industry. Hemp oil can also be used to produce diesel. Hemp is also used to produce biomass for heating.
Sativa variety
The Sativa variety comes from places with a warm climate and a very long growing season. This includes countries such as Mexico, India, Thailand and Colombia. The most important thing to distinguish Sativa from Indica cannabis is the plant structure. The Sativa variety is described as sloping, has thinner leaves and quite large gaps between branches.
It is characterized by rapid growth during the vegetation period. This variety has long candle-shaped buds - formerly they were loose and airy. These buds are now highly resistant to mould. They do not require large and frequent fertilization. The most famous Sativa varieties include the legendary Haze, which develops over a period of about 12 weeks. Cannabis Sativa seeds are suitable for both indoor and outdoor cultivation. More...
